Hi, I am Jina. I am an art historian, writer, and journalist based in Vienna, Austria. I write criticisms and reports on art, design, contemporary culture, and economic news. My work is written primarily for Korean audience for Korean media, but I also occasionally contribute in English language.

I studied sociology (Yonsei University, B.A. graduated in 1994) and art history (Hong-ik University, M.A. graduated in 1998) in Seoul, Korea. I launched my path in journalism as editor at Newsweek Korea (Joongang Ilbo Daily Newspaper; 1994-97) and guest editor at Monthly DESIGN magazine (Design House, Ltd.,1996-98).

I have worked as curatorial intern at the National Museum of American Art & Its Renwick Gallery (Now Smithsonian American Art Museum) in Washington, D.C. (1998), MoMA- The Museum of Modern Art, New York (1999), and Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy (2000~2001). Exhibitions such as ⟪George Catlin and His Indian Gallery⟫ (September 6, 2002 – January 20, 2003 at the Smithsonian American Art Museum), ⟪MOMA2000 – Open Ends⟫ (September 28, 2000–March 4, 2001) and ⟪Gerhard Richter – Forty Years of Painting⟫ (February 14–May 21, 2002) are some of my contributions I had made.

Since 2001 I have regularly contributed news, reports, and reviews on art, design, and culture for a number of magazines and periodicals, including WOLGAN MISOOL Monthly Art Magazine, Monthly DESIGN, CHRONOS Korea, and HAUTE (monthly luxury marketing publicaiton).

My columns also appeared on artnet.com (U.S.) [“Pause for Thought – Gwangju Biennale 4″ Review, “Manifesta 2002” Review] and Contemporary magazine (U.K.) [publication permanently closed in 2009].

Gwangju Biennale Guide Quarterly, Cultural Space (Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Seoul), Noblesse (monthly luxury magazine) , and ARKO Humanities 360° project platform (Arts Council Korea, Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

For over 10 years, I consulted on content creation and planning – my expertise in European culture and contemporary trends – for Korean conglomerate media organs and government publications, such as SK Telecom, LG Hausys (LG Chemical subsidiary), and Samsung SDI, and Seoul Design Foundation (a cultural initiative by Seoul Metropolitan Government), to name a few.

I translated two English books into Korean language: Idolizing Pictures: Idolatry, Iconoclasm and Jewish Art by Anthony Julius (Thames & Hudson, 2001/ trans. Chohyong Education, 2003) and 20th Century Design by Jonathan M. Woodham (Oxford History of Art Series, Oxford University Press, 1997/ trans.  Sigongsa, 2007). My English translation of a Korean book on K-beauty ⟪K-Beauty: The Truths⟫has been published in 2019 (Knowledge & Common Sense).

I curated ⟪Open 24 Hours⟫, a contemporary group art exhibition which went on view in September 2007 at Chungmu Art Hall in Seoul, South Korea. Contemplated through the eyes of 8 Korean artists, the exhibition examined how the ’24-hour society’ forms daily economic lives of consumers and, in return, feeds the entrepreneurial spirit of the Korean economy .
